Lander University is blessed to have a custodian with such a mission for life. Tommy Clause is 3rd generation Santa Claus. Inspired by God and with a helping family, Tommy and his family has made children’s Christmas wishes come true for the past five years with Operation Tommy Clause. Tommy Clause really has a passion for kids, “I believe that every kid needs love and my mission in life is for all the less fortunate kids to have a happy and marry Christmas.”
Operation Tommy Clause is where they adopt a school every two years. This year is Oakland Elementary and they work with the case workers to find out which kids are less fortunate make sure those kids have presents on Christmas day. Tommy Clause has boxes set up all over campus so the faculty and students of Lander can donate presents. The organization has collected up to 100-200 presents in the past. Tommy Clause stays out until 1 to 2 AM on Christmas Eve making sure all the children have presents. He likes to refer to the smiling children as the “Jack-o-lantern effect”.
Tommy Clause hopes everyone comes out to the Christmas walk and supports the Operation Tommy Clause by donating presents on December 7th. The Christmas walk is where Santa Claus and Lander’s bearcat walk around lighting the campus up for Christmas.
