Lander University now has a radio station with an eclectic mix of music. Music such as jazz, rock, blue grass, country, and maybe even a little classical are being played. At this point in time, there are 12 different disk jockeys for the radio station that consists of students, faculty, and staff members. Not only does XLR Lander Radio play recorded music, they also play live music. Students with musical abilities are welcome anytime to play their music on the radio.
Paul Crutcher has been a part of Lander University for some time now. Crutcher was just recently hired for a new position. His new job title is the Broadcast and Emerging Media Specialist as well as the Manager of XLR Lander Radio.
Mr. Crutcher began his radio career when he was 16 years old. He worked for a radio station in the Midwest that was 50,000 watts and covered over two states. Just having a job was not what radio was about to Crutcher, it was the love for radio that inspired him to continue his career. He has worked in radio for over 15 years during 80's and 90's. Although Crutcher has experienced other jobs, he states, "I wanted to keep one foot in the water with radio."
This upcoming season the Lander Men and Women's basketball games will be announced on XLR Radio. Crutcher will be giving play by play details, so even the listeners can get involved in these basketball games.
In the future, Crutcher would love to see a student oriented and operated television station. Hopefully one day this station will consist of the local news, weather, and sporting events. "This opportunity will give students a resume building experience," he states.
If you are ready for a wide variety of music, tune into 1610AM or Live 365 XLR Lander Radio on the right side of this website.
