MAT Students Present at SCAEA Conference

Lander MAT candidates recently presented a workshop for art teachers at the South Carolina Art Education Association conference at Myrtle Beach. They guided a search for alphabet shapes in photographs and shared alphabet books with artistic design and wit. A highlight of their session was the presence of an active designer of inventive lettering, Lander University Art Department Chair and coordinator of the graphic design program Jim Slagle. He provided information about humor in the field of graphic design. Along with his “Salvage Alphabet,” parody art for a Red Ribbon campaign, and eye-catching images of supersized chopsticks as advertising art, Slagle offered helpful tips for students seeking a career in graphic design based on his own experience in the field.
