When asked about the Lady Bearcats off the court, Lander Alum and huge supporter of the Lady Bearcats Michele Ballenger Smith replied:
They love food...I found my way into their hearts and lives through baking. I love to bake and luckily they all love to eat...and have the metabolism to do so! This past Friday was Nardia's birthday, so I baked cupcakes and took them in after the game. Amber, their manager, also baked cupcakes...We had sugar overload in the locker room that night. Luckily, they won on Saturday or I could have been blamed!
The girls are so funny and love to laugh. They are friends on and off the court! On the team they have Mass Communication majors, visual art majors and Bio-Chem majors...they are not only talented on the court, also in the classroom. Brittni Johnson designed the Christmas Card that Student Affairs sent out! It's on display, along with several other cards, beside the Mac lab in the Cultural Center.
I'm proud to be a Lady Bearcat fan, not just because they can play basketball (and because I'm married to one of the coaches), but because of the ladies that are on the team. They exemplify the meaning of the word Lady...a woman who behaves very politely and with dignity...BUT have no doubt they are also bearcats. They are fierce, dominating, determined and demand respect.
