In my many visits to Lander University as well as other colleges and universities, professors and students often ask me; “What was it that you did to, be able to get a job with a top four global firm and get the firm to pay you a salary while you were still in school on a full-scholarship to earn a Master’s Degree from the University of Notre Dame?”
The detailed answer to that question can be quite long so I’ll give you the simplest version that I can come up with. All I did was; become good at goal setting and game planning. Even now as I continue to progress in my corporate career, philanthropic involvement and my entrepreneurial endeavors, goal setting and game planning has to be the most crucial component to my ability to succeed.
Goal setting may seem very simple but it wasn’t until I came across some very influential mentors through one of the top mentorship programs in America, that I truly understood this concept. Goal setting is not just simply deciding what you want it is also crucial to identify why you want that goal. So the first thing that we all have to become better at is defining what we want and why we want it. When we have properly developed a goal we are ready to game plan.
Game planning can be a tricky task as it usually involves bouncing ideas off of other perspectives. Game planning is where trusted mentors and advisors play a huge role. Your goals can be accomplished on your own but the work load and the time commitment can be extremely intense if you try to do it all alone. As I mentioned earlier, I found personal mentors and these mentors helped me develop a plan to accomplish my goal.
As simple as I can put it; a major key to accomplishment is goal setting and game planning. I encourage you to take sometime to figure out what you really want, why you want it, and then find someone you trust to help you develop a good game plan to achieve that goal.
