On Wednesday night, the No. 15th ranked Lady Bearcats improved to 13-1 (6-0) with a 74-49 win against UNC Pembroke at Horne Arena. Ciara Lyons contributed 15 points and Tasheba Butler helped with a double-double.
After an 11-2 run to open the game, the Lady Bearcats appeared to be rolling on all cylinders. However, UNC Pembroke battled back midway through the first half to pull within five at 21-16 with JaToya Kemp's layup. But the Lady Bearcats ended the final eight minutes of the first half with a 23-4 run to have a 44-20 halftime lead.
The Lady Bearcats used the three-point shot to their advantage during the run with two by Jasmine Judge, one by Kami Phillips, and Brittni Johnson's long three right before the buzzer. Lander would finish 6-23 behind the arc.
In the second half, the Lady Bearcats pulled away, leading by as much as thirty-five at the 8:15 mark. Defense also helped the Lady Bearcats; the Lady Braves cracked the 30-point mark with seven minutes remaining.
Lander finished making 28 of 66 from the floor (42 percent) and 12 of 18 from the free throw line (67 percent). UNC Pembroke made 19 of 64 from the floor (30 percent) and six of ten from the three throw line (60 percent). The Lady Bearcats also had the advantage on the boards, 51-39. UNC Pembroke fell to 7-7, 1-4
