For the second year in a row, Lander is going on a cruise for spring break. Student Activities of Lander University is planning a seven-day cruise from February 28th to March 7th. It will be a Sunday to Sunday cruise that will be offered at a reasonable price.
The cruise ship, Norwegian Spirit from Norwegian cruise lines, will be leaving from New Orleans and making stops at four different ports; Costa Maya, Santo Tomas, Belize, and Cozumel. At the ports, students will have the opportunity to see different cultures of the world while shopping or joining in on activities planned by the cruise line. Aboard the ship are activities for all; ten restaurants, 9 clubs and bars, golf, ocean view basketball, a spa, a karaoke bar, and much, much, more.
“Last year the cruise was really fun,” said Mandy McCaslan, Assistant Director of Student Activities. McCaslan also said that some students planned their days together, while others chose what to do on their own. McCaslan plans and chaperones the cruise with Jeff Constant, Director of Student Affairs at Lander.
“Jeff and I are to there to help students with whatever the need on the trip,” said McCaslan. She explained that students are free to explore the ship and the areas around the ports. She also reassured that the ship is completely safe.
There are spots available for approximately forty-seven students, however people outside of Lander are also welcome to come. There is a higher fee for people traveling that are not a part of Lander. The cost of the trip includes transportation to and from New Orleans, and everything the cruise entails. Students would only need extra money if they plan to do shopping or participate in optional extra-curricular activities while at the four ports.
The cost is a little over $600, and a non-refundable deposit is due by October 27th. The remainder of the cost will be paid in monthly payments from November until January. These fees are for the Lander group rate and would be much more expensive if planning a trip with friends.
